It’s time to choose you.
Resistance /rɪˈzɪst(ə)ns
the refusal to accept or comply with something. e.g. “They displayed a narrow-minded resistance to change.”
No, this is not a call to arms against some authoritarian regime, nor is it a preamble to a mass uprising against the bourgeoisie by those who hate wealth just because they don’t have it. Nothing that extreme. It is a wake up call, a decision point, a rebellion against anything that denies you the full expression of who you are called to be, made to be, and should be.This is a decision point you should have reached years ago, before Life handed over to you the series of ‘hard knocks’ that metaphors are made of, leaving you with bruises and scars that seem imprinted on your psyche forever. This is a state of mind, a consciousness, an awakening to the reality of who you are and what you want for your life.
It’s time to choose you.
It’s not a time to choose another 30 boring days of boring work, with listless colleagues who metamorphosed into becoming boring because every attempt at individuality, every expression of one’s perspective, every effort to activate their individual “voice”, was quashed immediately as a rebellion and unacceptable. So everybody became cookie-cutter ‘perfect’, a replica of each other, each person sounding and acting exactly like the other, with passion totally extinguished. It’s not a time to be barely getting by at what the world calls ‘a job’, while being financially, emotionally and intellectually abused to the point where you unconsciously try to change aspects of yourself that can’t really be changed like being forthright, or honest, or curious. It is no time to choose again to manage the love-hate relationship you have built with your organisation which slowly over the years has turned into an unhealthy addiction (not that any addiction is healthy, but you get what I mean), which has kept you stagnant, yet staggering in the resolve you made to pursue the deepest longings of your heart. You heart says “now”, but you say you can’t because the time is not right, because you’re not ready, because a project is not yet completed, because ‘they’ promised you a promotion, a transfer, a new job, a raise, or a myriad of all the ‘carrots’ dangled just slightly out of your reach, which for a while seemed to be sufficient reason for you to allow the subjugation, the thought unification, the subconscious mind-domination and career domiciliation being dispensed to you in slow, subtle, careful doses.
It’s time to choose you.
Even when you tried to improve on your immediate work context by expressing the need for some personal development – “I would like to do an an MBA”, I wish I could take a career break, or “I want to do a leadership course to prepare me for leading a team – A myriad of excuses begin to be thrown at you – “You just got into this new role, you don’t have time for an MBA, “is your spouse in support of this”, or its really expensive, can you afford the expense”, or the most ridiculous of them all, “you don’t need an MBA to be successful at your job”!’ Who said anything about doing it for the job?
It’s time to choose you.
‘Get up to speed first’, ‘you are not yet ready’, ‘when you brush up on your project management skills’, or even ‘you were not eligible (aka, you are not enough)’ says your boss, the all-knowing, most ready, project delivery master and most eligible-for-the-position-he-or-she-sits-on. Your boss, the most complete repository of all knowledge, who you know is making it up as she/he goes along. Or maybe it was your peer that delivered the put-down, or even your friend that said “I don’t see you managing a team that big…or something in you -fear, most likely, that held you back. Guess what? While you were waiting on things to be perfect, to get up to speed, to build those skills, to be counted as eligible, you turned from a twenty-four year-old fresh-faced graduate, to a forty-three year old ghost of your twenty-four year old self. Enough.
It’s time to choose you.
It’s beyond time to listen…to listen to the nudging, the calling, the whispering, the prodding of those deep-seated desires that make your heart skip a beat whenever you allow your mind linger secretly on them. It is time to stop hiding your true self and your true expression of value from those around you, due to the limiting belief that they would never understand because what you want does not fit into your ‘career path’ and ‘development plans’. You held back because you knew they would never accept you if they knew the size of your dream, the extent of your vision, the hope, oh! the glorious hope which you’ve hid in your heart for decades.
It’s time to choose you!
It’s time to agree with the yearnings that plague you, to succumb to the flow of the rhythm of grace which you were naturally created and distinctly built for…You’ve resisted…resisted the desire, resisted the possibility, resisted the freedom, resisted the call and the enticement of your unique future, the shimmering light of your glorious outbreaking of value that the world awaits, yet which remains unfulfilled. This future is the real you – beckoning, calling out to you, urging, sometimes softly, sometimes sharply, giving you visual snippets of the reality you could experience if you only chose YOU. It calls you by your real name-Talented, Gifted, Brave, Bold, Passionate, Strong; Polyglot, Intelligent,The-One-Who-Is-Enough.
Oh…how it’s time to choose you!
You are enough…no, you are more than enough! Do not listen. The world wants you to, like David, keep shearing your sheep and not attempt to take on your own Goliath. They tell you that you can’t do it until you wear the armour, carry the big sword, get just a little more combat training…and on and on. They forget (or maybe never knew), that all that you needed to kill Goliath was already inside you. You were already a Goliath-killer, you just had not killed one yet! They had no clue that you had inside you the Power that could save by many or by a few! Indeed, they never knew about the personal lions and bears you had taken down in the past, but did not celebrate because you expected that this was what everybody did- kill lions and bears. You did not know that you were special, and the world wants you to remain in your ignorance. The world wants you to keep chasing the slippery goose which is always just a little bit out of your grasp, almost in your hands , but not quite. They thought you would chase the ethereal forever, while they took the leaps and bounds that did not line up with the philosophies they expounded to you. They lied to you.
Do you now see why it’s time to choose you?
